Food Fest Gothenburg expands with The Ingredient Challenge

This year, Food Fest Gothenburg is taking another step forward with the launch of The Ingredient Challenge — a competition putting West Swedish ingredients and the restaurants cooking with them centre stage. The aim is to shine a light on local ingredients, get guests involved and build something lasting around West Swedish food. Participating restaurants also get media exposure and the chance to win a prize. And it all happens alongside the many activities already taking place across the city during the festival. The Ingredient Challenge' is completely free of registration, open to restaurants in Gothenburg, and welcomes everyone cooking during the festival week from September 11–20.

The competition is proudly organized by Food Fest Gothenburg in collaboration with the small-scale wholesaler Gårdslagret, the restaurant and city guide Thatsup, and Smaka på Västsverige.

This year, Food Fest Gothenburg is taking an exciting new step by launching 'The Produce Battle'—a competition that shines a bright spotlight on West Swedish ingredients and the amazing places that cook with them! Our goal is to celebrate local produce, get our guests super engaged, and build something lasting for West Swedish gastronomy. At the same time, participating spots will get awesome media visibility and the chance to win a prize. And all of this is happening alongside all the wonderful activities already bustling around the city during the festival week!

Here is how the competition works

No registration needed. Just go for it!

1. Create the dish: Put a dish on your menu during the festival, 11–20 September, with local West Swedish ingredients taking centre stage.

2. Post on Instagram: Post a photo of the dish and tell the story behind the ingredient. Enter at any point during the festival by using the hashtag #råvarukampen and tag the restaurant, @foodfestgothenburg, @gardslagret, @thatsup_goteborg, @smakapavastsverige, and the producer or producers behind the ingredient. Tip: Add the other participants as collaborators on the post for even greater reach.

3. Get your guests involved: Encourage them to photograph the dish and tag your restaurant, #råvarukampen and the other participants. Every tag helps build momentum in the feed.

Easy-to-use signage: We have ready-made table signs and A4 and A3 posters that you can simply print and use to tell your guests about the competition.

By posting with #råvarukampen, you agree that Food Fest Gothenburg and its partners may reshare the images in their own channels, helping the dishes become part of the wider story of West Swedish ingredients even after the festival is over.

Why join
the fun

This is the first year of The Ingredient Challenge, which means you get to help shape the competition and build a tradition we want to see grow for years to come. It is about celebrating what we have here in West Sweden, creating more visibility together and encouraging more people to discover and appreciate local food.

About Food Fest Gothenburg

Food Fest Gothenburg is back for its second year, bringing together amazing restaurants, passionate producers, creative minds, and fellow foodies for a whole week of celebrating the incredible food scene in West Sweden! The festival is proudly presented by Göteborg & Co, the West Sweden Tourist Board, and the Gothenburg Region.

We are all about creating fun get-togethers in unexpected places, bringing food and culture together, and shining a bright spotlight on our fantastic local talents! By boosting our local community, we also want to help make Gothenburg even more sustainable and resilient. Last year, the festival sparked some wonderful things, including bringing a vegetable market back to Grönsakstorget, guiding hungry foodies to discover Backaplan on a tasty food walk with food writer Kalle Wannerskog, and hosting a cozy dinner at Bulot with inspiring chats about community and celebration with author Lydia Sandgren and professor Ola Sigurdson.
